Aim of the Qualification:
This qualification enable candidates to develop an understanding of the basic principles underlying the recording of business transactions, and the ability to maintain the books of, and prepare final accounts, for sole traders. This includes the record of double-entry bookkeeping of simple transactions concerning the purchase and sale of goods and the receipt and payments of cash.
This certificate is suitable for candidates who work or pursuing in areas of business that will involve the recording of financial transactions. All businesses require accurate accounting records that are maintained on a regular basis. Consequently, there is a demand for employees who possess these skills.

Books of Original Entry and Double-Entry
- The accounting equation –principles of the accounting equation
- Double-entry bookkeeping – recording of transactions by double-entry
- Books of original entry – sales invoice; purchase invoice; credit note, purchases day book; sales day book; cash book; petty cash book; journal
- Bank transactions – methods of payments and receipt of money; the need for reconciliation statements; updating the cash books….
Accounting for Payroll
- Calculation of payroll using time rates and incentive schemes – time rate; piece rate; bonus scheme; salaries
- Payroll deductions – Statutory and Voluntary deductions
- Calculation of wages – Gross and Net pay
- Accounting for payroll – Prepare ledger entries for payroll from given data
Control Accounts
- Preparation of the trade receivables ledger
- Preparation of the trade payables ledger
Produce Financial Statements of a Sole Trader
- Accounts for depreciation costs
- Adjustments for accruals and prepayments
- Adjustments for irrecoverable debts
- Accounting concepts
- Prepare the Financial Statements – preparation of an income statement (statement of profit or loss) for a sole trader
Overview of assessment:
- The examination will be 2 hours
- The paper contains FIVE questions
- Candidates to answer ALL questions
- The questions comprise of table completion, preparation of accounts and short open response questions

Aim of the Qualification:
The aim of this qualification is to enable candidates to develop the ability to understand Accounting Information deriving from all sources – manual, mechanical and electronic. It also develops their ability to prepare Accounting statements and data in accordance with basic accounting conventions and current accounting practice. It allows candidates to appreciate and analyze and interpret accounting statements and data.

Course Outline
Accounting Level 3
This module is an understanding of basic principles underlying the recording of business transactions and the ability to prepare and interpret accounts for sole traders, partnerships, non-trading organizations, limited companies and group of companies in accordance with basic accounting conventions and current accounting practice.
Examination format for L3 Accounting
Written Exam:
- The time allowance for the examination is 3 hours
- The examination paper will comprise 5 questions
- Candidates are required to answer 4 questions
- No question will be compulsory
